COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
EXTINGUISHER, FIRE, WATER-TYPE
(2-1/2 GALLON STORED PRESSURE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description.
This description covers 2-1/2 gallon stored pressure, water type, fire extinguishers of the following type and Underwriter Laboratory ratings:

When U.L. class B suppression is required, type B extinguisher shall be used. An aqueous solution shall be generated when extinguishing agent is passed through an aspirating nozzle or the solution may be premixed in the water tank.
Salient characteristics:
Extinguishing agent and charge. Extinguisher is to be charged according to manufacturer’s directions and shall be furnished empty and not pressurized. When specified a suitable alkali-metal-salt solution shall be furnished. The alkali metal-salt solution or any other freeze protection shall not be used with type B extinguishers.
Material. Stainless steel shell.
Marking. The extinguisher shall be marked with proper “Shape-Symbol”.
Handle and mounting bracket. Each fire extinguisher shall be provided with carrying handle and mounting bracket.
Underwriters Laboratories Standards. All extinguisher shall meet U.L. requirements. Extinguishers shall be capable of extinguishing appropriate test fires as detailed in U. 711.
The issue of UL Standard 711 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking (Civilian). The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking (DoD). Military packaging shall be specified when shipments are to be overseas Department of Defense (DoD) consignees. Commercial packaging may be specified for shipments to DoD consignees within the Continental United States and to non-DoD consignees worldwide. When a suppliers normal packaging will satisfy the requirements for military packaging, it may be used.
1. Multiple handling during transportation and in transit storage.
2. Shock, vibration, and static loading forces during worldwide shipment by all transport models.
3. Uncontrolled warehouse storage for extended periods.
4. Weather exposure during shipment and in transit transfers.
5. Stacking loads during shipment and storage.
