COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

BALL VALVE

(DROP-OUT TYPE: LINE: INLINE: SUCTION: DISCHARGE)

This description covers full-flow, drop-out ball valves for fire fighting purposes and shall be furnished in the following types, classes, and sizes as specified.

Type I – Brass, cast
Type II – Aluminum, hardcoated

Class A – Line valve. For use on pumpers as discharge valves or in hose lines for flow control.
Class B – Inline valve. For use in the piped lines of a pumper on either the suction or discharge side of the pump.
Class C – Suction valve. For use on the inlet side of the pump.
Class D – Discharge valve. For use on discharge side of the pump.

Salient characteristics.

Valve shall hold vacuum or pressure in either direction.
Quarter-turn handle shall be supplied pre-set so that the “Closed” position is perpendicular to the waterflow; the handle shall swing parallel to the waterflow for “Open” but shall be capable of being set for any operating position at time of installation.
Valve body and seat assembly shall be quickly and easily removed from the line without disturbing the rest of the system.
Drain holes shall be provided.
Class A valves shall be provided with a handle for manual operation.
Class B, C, and D shall be provided with handles for manual operation.
(They are also available for remote operation, if specified).
Line valves (Class A) shall be furnished with a rigid male pipe thread (NPT) outlet adapter. Suction valve (Class C) shall be furnished with a rigid female pipe thread outlet adapter. Both classes shall be provided with a swivel female inlet adapter using the following thread series: NH or NPSH, as specified, for Size 1; NH for sizes 2 and 4; and NPSH for size 3.
Inline valves (Class B) shall be furnished with rigid female pipe thread (NPT) adapters on both the inlet and outlet sides.
