HOSE ASSEMBLY, NONMETALLIC (Standpipes; Rack & Reel)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification JJ-H-571, Style B.
This description covers coupled fire hoses, with or without nozzles, for fire protection use only. It is for installation at inside standpipes and rack and reel applications only. Hoses shall be furnished in the following types, as specified.

Salient characteristics.
Configuration – The hose assembly shall consist of a hose section fitted with one male coupling, one female coupling, and if specified, one nozzle.
Hose – The hose shall be single-jacketed and made from cotton threads, synthetic threads, or a combination of both. The lining shall be made of rubber, plastic, or rubber/plastic compounds of uniform thickness. The hose shall replace linen hoses on a foot for foot basis.
Coupling – One threaded male piece with expansion ring and one female piece with swivel section and expansion ring shall be provided. Couplings shall be furnished with rocker lugs. Couplings shall be made of either bass or hardcoated aluminum, as specified.
Nozzle. The nozzle shall produce a variable water pattern from shut-off to straight stream through fog to a heat shield and shall meet the requirements of UL Standard 401/
