COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HOSE ASSEMBLY, NONMETALLIC
(FIRE, 800 LBS. TEST PRESSURE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the
use of this commercial item description.
This description covers high pressure, all synthetic double-jacketed fire hoses, with couplings, for fire protection purposes and shall be furnished in the following sizes as specified:

Salient characteristics:
Hose length shall be 50-feet or 100-feet, as specified.
Configuration. The assembly shall consist of one male coupling, one female coupling, and one section of hose of specified length.
Hose. Synthetic, woven, double-jacketed, lined.
Couplings. One threaded male piece with expansion ring and one threaded female piece with swivel section and expansion ring shall be provided. Coupling shall be furnished with rocker lugs. All threads shall be of the NH series, unless otherwise specified. Materials of couplings shall be either brass or hardcoated aluminum at the manufacturers option, unless otherwise specified. Use of three-part reducing couplings on the 1-3/4 inch and 3-inch hose is permissible. The
1-3/4 inch coupling reduces to 1-1/2 inch threads and the 3-fnch coupling reduces to 2-1/2 inch threads.
Proof (test) pressure - 800 psi
Burst pressure - 1200 psi
Conformance. Hose shall meet or exceed the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1961.
The issue of NFPA Standard 1961 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement.
Workmanship. Jacket shall be well, evenly, and firmly woven and as free from unsightly defects, dirt, knots, lumps, and irregularities of twist as is consistent with good manufacturing practice. The waterway surface of the lining shall be free from pitting, corrugations, or other irregularities or imperfections, hose shall be free of defects which may affect appearance or serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking (civilian). The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
