This commercial item description covers Halon 1211 fire extinguishers of the following types and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) ratings. Types AA, A, and B are for use on class B and C fires. Types C, D, E, and F are for use on class A, B, and C fires.

Salient characteristics:
Fire extinguishers shall be charged with bromochlorofluoromethane- Halon 1211.
Mounting bracket type shall be specified by the user. If U.S. Coast Guard approved it shall be referenced on the nameplate as “USCG Approval Number _____. Valid Only with Bracket Number ________.”
U.S. Coast Guard approved extinguishers shall be marked with an appropriate “Marine Type” designation.
Conformance. All extinguishers shall meet the requirements of UL Standard 1093 and shall be capable of extinguishing test fires as detailed in UL Standard 711. All extinguishers shall be marked with the appropriate “Shape-Symbol Code”. The issues of UL standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. In accordance with section 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations, the Government’s policy is to acquire items composed of the highest percentage of recovered materials practicable, consistent with maintaining a satisfactory level of competition without adversely affecting performance requirements or exposing supplier’s employees to undue hazards from the recovered materials.
