COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
EXTINGUISHER, FIRE, CARBON DIOXIDE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification O-E-910.
This commercial item description covers carbon dioxide fire extinguishers intended for use against classes B and C fires. They shall have the following minimum Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) classification and rating:

Salient characteristics.
Charge. Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
Coast Guard approval. Sizes 5, 10, and 15 shall be US Coast Guard approved and shall be marked with appropriate “Marine Type” designation.
Marking. Shall be marked with the proper “Shape-Symbol code”.
Mounting. Standard mounting hook shall be furnished. When specified, a Marine or Coast Guard approved bracket shall be supplied as an added extra or option.
Color. Standard color unless otherwise specified.
Cylinders. The size 50 (wheeled) extinguishers shall use a non-shatterable cylinder conforming to the Department of Transportation Specification 3AA (COT-3AA) shipping-container specification. When specified, the sizes 5, 10, and 15 extinguishers shall use non-scatterable cylinders conforming to the DOT-3AAshipping-container specification.
Workmanship. The fire extinguishers shall not have rust, dirt, grease, sharp edges, burrs, slivers, or any other defect which may impair serviceability, or appearance.
Conformance. All extinguishers shall meet or exceed the requirements of UL Standard 154, and shall be capable of extinguishing test fires as detailed in UL Standard 711. The issue of UL standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
