COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

HOSE ASSEMBLY, NON-METALLIC

(FIRE; COTTON; SINGLE-JACKETED)

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification ZZ-H-451F, Type I, Class C.

This description covers cotton, lined, single-jacketed hose for fire protection purposes.

The hose shall be furnished in two types, as specified:

Type I � 1 inch minimum inside hose diameter with 1 inch by 11 1/2 NPSH threads.

Type II � 1 1/2 inch minimum inside hose diameter with 1 1/2 by 9 NH threads.

Salient characteristics.

Configuration. The hose assemblies shall consist of a hose section fitted with one male coupling and one female coupling.

Hose. Cotton, woven, lined, single-jacketed with a 50 foot minimum length and the inside diameter as specified.

Coupling. One threaded male piece with expansion ring and one threaded female piece with swivel section and expansion ring shall be provided. Couplings shall be provided with rocker lugs. The couplings shall be made of either brass of hardcoated aluminum, meeting the requirements of UL Standard 236.

Proof pressure. 300 psi

Kink pressure. 300 psi

Burst pressure. 600 psi

Conformance. The type I shall be certified by the manufacturer that it meets the intent of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard 19. Type II hose shall meet the requirements of UL Standard 19.

The issues of UL standards in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.

Workmanship. Jacket shall be well, evenly, and firmly woven and as free from unsightly defects, dirt, knots, lumps, and irregularities of twist as is consistent with good manufacturing practice. The waterway surface of the lining shall be practically free from pitting corrugations or other irregularities or imperfections. The hose shall be free of defects which may affect the durability, appearance or serviceability.
