COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HOSE, NON-METALLIC (FIRE, DOUBLE-JACKET)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description, in preference to Federal Specification ZZ-H-451H, type II, class A.
This description covers cotton synthetic, double jacketed hose for fire protection purposes.
The hose assemblies shall be furnished in three sizes, as specified:
Size I- 1-1/2 inch minimum inside hose diameter
Size II- 2-9/16 inch minimum inside hose diameter
Size III- 3 inch minimum inside hose diameter
Salient characteristics:
The hose assemblies shall consist of a hose section fitted with one male coupling and one female coupling.
Hose. Cotton synthetic woven, double-jacketed, lined, 50 foot minimum length and with inside diameter specified. The hose shall meet the requirements of Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) Standard 19.
Couplings. One threaded male piece with expansion ring and one threaded female piece with swivel section and expansion ring shall be provided.
Couplings shall be furnished with rocker lugs.
All threads shall be of NH series, unless otherwise specified.
Material - Brass or aluminum, as specified, meeting requirements of UL Standard 236.
Aluminum surfaces. Extruded or forged couplings shall be hard-coated to Alcoa’s Hardcoat Specification #226 or equal to a thickness of 0.002 inch with a tolerance of + 0.0005 inch. The total coupling shall be hard-coated and no dies are to be used. All bearing surfaces shall be lubricated with a semi-permanent dry lubricant.
Proof pressure. 400 psi.
Workmanship. Jacket shall be well, evenly and firmly woven and as free from unsightly defects, dirt, knots, lumps and irregularities of twist as is consistent with good manufacturing practice. The waterway surface of the lining shall be practically free from pitting, corrugations, or other irregularities or imperfections. Hose shall be free of defects which may affect appearance or serviceability.
The issues of UL standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contractor order.
