COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CHARGE, FIRE EXTINGUISHER, ANTIFREEZE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers antifreeze charge for 2 1/2- gallon stainless steel water type fire extinguishers used on class A (trash, paper, wood, etc.) fires only.
Salient characteristics:
Charge – Alkali-metal-salt (dry), packed in 10# moisture-proof container.
Mixing – When mixed as directed, shall give protection to -40O F. Instructions shall be included.
Corrosion – The extinguishing agent shall not be corrosive to any of the materials in the extinguishers with which it comes in contact in intended usage.
Conformance – When mixed with water, as directed, shall comply with all of the requirements of Underwriter’s Laboratories Standards 626 and 711.
The issue of Underwriter’s Laboratories Standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract and order.
