COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
EXTINGUISHER, FIRE, DRY CHEMICAL, WHEELED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification O-E-918.
This commercial item description covers dry chemical fire extinguisher, mounted on a wheeled carriage for use on Class B and C fires.
Salient characteristics:
Charge. Potassium Bicarbonate
Expellant. Nitrogen stored in a separate cylinder.
Dimensions.
Width (at axle) -------------- 29 inches (maximum)
Wheel diameter------------- 16 inches (minimum)
Towing handle. The towing handle shall include a towing loop to permit attaching the extinguisher to the pintle of a towing vehicle.
Components. The unit shall be provided provided with a 50 foot discharged hose with shut-off valve. The hose shall withstand a hydrostatic burst pressure four times the operating pressure of the unit when tested in accordance with the straight bursting test method of ASTM D 380. The unit shall be provided with wheels with pneumatic tires and a weather cover.
Conformance. All extinguishers shall meet the requirements of Underwriters’ Laboratories Standard 299 and shall be capable of extinguishing appropriate test fires as detailed in UL, Standard 711 and shall have a minimum UL, rating of 320 B:C. The issue of UL standards in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with the stated requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging and packing” shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
